Creating Projects

Only organization Admins can create projects. Choose a project type, then pick how to set it up: from a brief, from a script (film/TV), or manually.

Create manually

Start from a blank project, then add locations, scenes, and purchases yourself. Available on every plan (within project limits — Free allows one active project).

Upload a brief (Lite+)

Drop in a treatment, scope doc, or production brief. Backscene analyzes it and proposes locations, scenes, and related structure for review. You confirm in a review wizard before anything is created — nothing saves until you accept.

Supported uploads include PDF, Word, PowerPoint, text, and CSV. Brief parsing requires Lite, Pro, or Studio. On Free, the brief option is locked with an upgrade prompt. Matrix: Plans & Features.

Upload a script (film/TV)

For film/TV project types, you can create the project and upload a script (PDF or Word) so Backscene can extract scene structure for review. Script upload is part of the film/TV create path — distinct from storing files later on the project's Documents tab (Documents do not parse scenes or locations).

After the project exists

You land in the project workspace. Invite collaborators from Settings, link locations, and start logging purchases. See Working in a Project and Project Settings & Collaborators.
